Welcome back to The Stanza. Hope you’re all well rested, well fed, and feeling good about the upcoming year. I have just returned from a ski trip to Crans Montana in the Swiss Alps, where I pizza’d down blue runs wearing Perfect Moment and Cordova ski gear. Yes, feel free to make fun of me, but my goal this season is to get comfortable on the slopes. I used to hate snow sports because of the amount of stuff you have to lug around, but recently I’ve gotten the ski bug and now get why people love it. The fresh mountain air, alpine food, and post-ski sauna and cold plunge sessions make me feel so *serene*. I didn’t include après ski, because I’m too old for that and want to focus on actual skiing now. The best part is that the alps are so close to Milan. Any resort recs? Definitely share in the comments.
I rarely talk about building The Stanza and I’m making it a point to change that in 2025. As a result, people often don’t know how to categorize me/The Stanza, and will compare it to a traditional press outlet, call me a reporter or journalist, or a podcaster, or influencer. While all of those labels are respectable, none of those things apply. The Stanza is a media platform exploring how two specific industries - hospitality & fashion - impact consumer behavior and modern culture, while sharing insights that operators in those industries can apply to their businesses. Moreover, The Stanza is my personal and public facing brand that is part of something much bigger, which I will hopefully be able to share sometime in 2025.
In the meantime, I wanted to give you all a heads up:
I will be retiring the green screen for video content
…I think it’s time…
I’ll be featuring more hotels & restaurants that I’ve been to, loved, and think are worth sharing with you (by way of vlogs and via the newsletter)
And I’ll be discussing what I think the operators did right or could improve on, as a lot of you are operators of hospitality businesses.
I’ll be sharing more of my style choices - occasionally
The Stanza is primarily an industry platform, but I also think it’s important to know that there is 1 person behind this newsletter, and to know whose thoughts you’re reading. So, sometimes I’ll share recent purchases (fashion & interior design), and why I bought them.
In today’s newsletter: AA Investments, The Well’s 2nd resi project in Miami, nightclubs in Berlin, American investors buying European ski resorts, Carbone London, the Wirkin & state of luxury fashion
